Health Department

HCD Health Services

The Medical Department of the Diocese is administrative: it coordinates, directs and advises all mission health units within the jurisdiction of Hoima Catholic Diocese. As a matter of fact, healthcare services in the Diocese started in 1930s when the White Missionary Sisters established the first health unit at Bujumbura Hill. Like in the parable of the Mustard Seed (Mk 4:31ff), healthcare services in the Diocese have from that humble beginning greatly expanded and improved in both quality and quantity. Currently, there are 10 health centre IIIs and 8 health centre IIs spread in the districts of Hoima, Masindi, Kiryandongo, Kibaale, Buliisa, Kakumiro and Kagadi.

OUR VISION: The vision of the Hoima Catholic Diocese health services is to have a healthy population in a healthy environment so that people may have life and have it to the full (Jn. 10:10).

OUR MISSION: The mission of Hoima Catholic health department is to imitate Christ, to promote life to the full and to heal in a holistic manner with preference to the less privileged.

Sr. Annette Kyaligonza who works as the Diocesan Health Coordinator asserts that health services in the Diocese ought to promote access to quality health care for the less privileged and vulnerable social groups like women, children, destitute and the chronically ill. In order to achieve this, the Diocesan health units are Private Not For Profit (PNFP).

The Healthcare Department of the Diocese through the above-mentioned health units, in close collaboration with the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB), Joint Medical Stores (JMS) and the Uganda Ministry of Health, offers preventive, curative, promotion, training, Maternal Child Health, CBHC and HIV/AIDS care and counselling.
